Adrian Marren showed that age is no barrier by scoring 0-5 for Curry in their Sligo IFC final victory over Ballymote at the weekend.
The 43-year-old attacker, who retired from inter-county duty after a 16-year stint with Sligo in 2020, is still going strong for his beloved club and was very much to the fore as they prevailed by 2-15 to 0-17 at Markievicz Park on Sunday to regain senior status at the first attempt.
Curry led by 0-9 to 0-5 at the break before second half goals from substitute Ben Durcan and Jack Duffy sealed the deal. Marren kicked two points immediately after Durcan’s goal at the start of the second half and landed another down the home stretch as Jimmy Langan’s men ran out four-point winners.
“It’s just a relief to get over the line. We knew coming in it wasn’t going to be easy,” the former Sligo sharpshooter told Ocean FM.
“It took a lot to come back this year after getting relegated last year. But I saw the effort the young lads were putting in and I said I’d give it one last go. The club is where it starts and where it finishes. I know in my head that when I go, I gave it a good rattle.”
