McNulty staying with Laois as Longford begin manager search

Justin McNulty is expected to remain on as Laois senior football manager next year.

Laois Live is reporting that the 2002 Armagh SFC winner’s name will be put forward for another term at the September county board meeting. McNulty’s second stint as O’Moore County boss officially ended after last June’s Tailteann Cup quarter-final defeat to Down, but he now looks set to continue in the role for a fourth year.

McNulty refused to be drawn on his future plans after the Tailteann Cup exit when saying: “Too soon to discuss that. I was planning to be still involved for next week and sadly we got a big dunt and that's not going to happen. It's been a real privilege and honour to work with this group of players and with the management team.”

The meeting is also set to ratify former star forward Chris Conway as the new Laois minor football manager.

Meanwhile, Longford have begun the process of appointing a new senior football manager. Mike Solan stepped down after two years in charge last month and has since taken the Offaly reins.

A committee comprising county board chairman Derek Fahy, secretary Peter O'Reilly, treasurer Ciaran Walsh, communications officer Colm Murray and former players Barry O'Farrell, Cosmos Gilmore and Francis McNamee has been tasked with selecting the new manager.
