Down got their 2026 Joe McDonagh Cup campaign off to a flying start thanks to a 1-22 to 0-23 victory over Antrim in Dunloy this afternoon.
After having built up a 0-12 to 0-8 lead by half-time with the help of scores from Seaan Elliott and Ryan McCambridge, the Saffrons stayed in control until the closing stages when the scores by Liam Savage, Owen McDermott and Tom McGrattan (two frees) brought Down level (0-22 to 0-22).
Jack McCloskey put Davy Fitzgerald’s side back in front, but this goal from Donal Hughes (watch below) in injury-time proved the difference as the Mourne men secured a superb win over their neighbours.
Today’s other Joe McDonagh Cup first round tie sees Carlow and Laois clashing at Netwatch Cullen Park at 6pm.
