St Thomas’ equalled Turloughmore’s record six-in-a-row of Galway SHC titles thanks to Eanna Burke’s second goal in injury-time at Pearse Stadium.
Burke’s strike in the sixth minute of injury-time was the key score as the holders held on for a 2-12 to 1-13 victory after an even later goal by Galway captain Daithí Burke from a 20-metre free wasn’t enough to save Turloughmore in front of over 7,000 spectators.
The men from Peterswell, Kilchreest and Castledaly built up an early 1-4 to 0-1 lead thanks to Eanna Burke’s first green flag in the 14th minute. But with Conor Walsh in fine form from placed balls, the challengers fought back to trail by the minimum, 0-8 to 1-6, at the interval.
Points from Walsh and Sean O’Hanlon edged Turlough’ ahead for the first time three minutes into the second half. Conor Cooney and Oisin Flannery replied to leave it all square before St Thomas’ found an extra gear in the closing stages to maintain their vice-like grip on the Tom Callanan Cup.
