"Can they get back to 2021 form? I just don't see it" - Keegan on Tyrone

Tyrone dejected

Former Mayo star Lee Keegan says he doesn’t see “the same hunger” in Tyrone that saw them capturing their county’s fourth All-Ireland title in 2021.

The Red Hands went down in a disappointing 4-10 to 0-12 defeat to Mayo last weekend and are currently bottom-placed in Division 1 ahead of this Sunday’s clash against All-Ireland champions Kerry in Omagh (throw-in 12.45pm).

Writing in column for RTE Sport, Keegan described Tyrone as being “extremely poor so far this year” and says it's puzzling given the talent within their ranks.

“It's not as if they're shy of quality. Darren McCurry, Darragh Canavan, Cathal McShane - most counties would die for a full-forward line of that ability,” wrote the five-time All-Star.

“From the outside, the squad turnover issue is a puzzler. It's not just the names that have left, it's the quantity of them that have left since '21. You'd have to question what that is.

“You could write off 2022 to a degree. Very hard to replicate the levels of the year before. But I was expecting a huge response this year. We just haven't seen it yet.

“Can they get back to 2021 form? I just don't see it. And the way they're performing at the moment, you can't see it happening too fast. They're planted at the bottom and in serious danger of relegation.”
