Ben Ryan and Kealan McDonnell followed in their famous fathers' footsteps by lining out for the Kildare and Armagh minor footballers respectively last weekend.

Ben, whose father Glenn is the Kildare senior football manager, played at wing back for the Lilywhite minors in their facile Leinster MFC first round win over Offaly at O'Connor Park on Saturday, Kealan wore the number 13 jersey made famous by his dad and 2002 All-Ireland SFC winner Steven as the Armagh minors continued their championship preparations.

It turned out to be a great weekend for the Ryan family as the Kildare seniors continued their revival under two-time Leinster SFC winning captain Glenn with a 0-24 to 1-12 hammering of Monaghan in the Allianz League in Clones.
