All-Ireland club hurling champions Ballyhale Shamrocks have been stunned by the sad passing of club legend Brendan Fennelly.
Brendan, who passed away on Wednesday, was part of Kilkenny GAA’ most famous dynasty, winning nine county SHC medals alongside his brothers Michael, Ger, Kevin, Liam, Sean and Dermot.
He was full forward on the Shamrocks’ breakthrough Kilkenny senior hurling championship winning team in 1978, flanked by Liam and Kevin.
Winner of an All-Ireland U21 HC with the Cats in 1977, he also made his mark as a manager, guiding Dunnamaggin to the 1997 Kilkenny SHC. Brendan, uncle of current Kilkenny hurlers Colin Fennelly and Adrian Mullen and former Hurler of the Year Michael Fennelly, also managed Laois, Carlow and Mount Leinster Rangers.
