Kieran McGeeney has claimed that some journalists are ‘infatuated’ by him.

Addressing the media after Armagh’s Allianz Football League Division 1 defeat to Donegal on Sunday, ‘Geezer’ jokingly asked not to be questioned about referees anymore for fear his comments would be skewed.

“I can’t talk about referees fellas. Ye get more headlines off me about f***ing referees,” the Orchard County boss smiled.

“You know something: the readers, just so they know, they think we come out and just start going on about referees. ‘Gather around everybody here, start talking about referees and give them a hard time’. ‘Kieran, do you think the timekeeping was really harsh?’ Suddenly the headline is ‘McGeeney gives out about referees’.

“There are idiots out there who love writing about me, they’re infatuated by me. Stop asking me, honestly.”

He continued: “It’s my fault because I gave youse the headlines. Your sub-editor must be going ‘Get that f**ker McGeeney out there and we’ll get some papers sold’."
