RTÉ has explained why Saturday evening’s eagerly-awaited Allianz Hurling League Division 1A showdown between Cork and Limerick won’t be shown on TV.
The national broadcaster has firmly laid the blame at the feet of the Munster rivals, saying “the counties could not accommodate them”, and will broadcast the Ulster derby between Armagh and Tyrone in the Allianz Football League instead.
“RTÉ sought Cork-Limerick in the Allianz Hurling League as our match selection a number of months ago but the counties could not accommodate. RTÉ subsequently chose Armagh-Tyrone,” a short statement from RTÉ read.
The absence of TV coverage is likely to result in an even bigger crowd flocking to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh for what is a repeat of last year’s epic Munster SHC and All-Ireland SHC semi-final battles.
