Meath's Mickey Burke

Mickey Burke is expected to make his 200th senior appearance in a Meath shirt against Down in the Kehoe Cup on Sunday.

Fittingly, the game is being played in Burke’s home ground of Longwood. The 38-year-old dual star has played 199 times for the Royals between both codes, with his most recent appearance coming in last summer’s Christy Ring Cup final victory over Derry at Croke Park.

“I’m as passionate as ever about playing for Meath. When you’re playing at inter-county level, you’re getting the best training, the best strength and conditioning, the best nutrition… the best of everything. Age is just a number and as long as I’m wanted, and the body and mind are right, I’ll keep playing,” he said.

Mickey is officially the longest-serving inter-county hurler following Derek McNicholas’ retirement from Westmeath duty last year.
