There were comfortable wins for Galway, Roscommon and Clare in Division 2 of the All-County Football League this afternoon.
In Salthill, Padraic Joyce’s Tribesmen recorded a 1-14 to 0-6 victory over Meath to get their campaign off to the perfect start.
The home side had been 0-5 to 0-0 in front when Tomo Culhane punched in their goal on 28 minutes and they’d go on to lead by 1-9 to 0-0 at the end of a forgettable first-half for the Royals.
In the difficult conditions, Andy McEntee’s men wouldn’t score until the 45th minute when Joey Wallace sailed over from 40 metres as Galway got more at the other end from Shane Walsh and Rob Finnerty to complete the 11-point rout.
Roscommon made a flying start at Dr Hyde Park as they handed Keith Ricken’s Cork side a 1-13 to 0-10 defeat on opening weekend.

Talisman Enda Smith netted the Rossies' goal 13 minutes in as they kicked on for a commanding 1-10 to 0-6 half-time lead.
The Rebels simply weren’t at the races and would only manage four points after the turnaround as the hosts pulled up winning in the end.
In Ennis, Clare scored a 1-13 to 0-7 win against Offaly to pick up two early points for their league campaign.
The Banner men produced the second-half goods, having trailed by 0-5 to 0-4 at the break, with Darragh Bohannon making the most of their wind advantage by netting the game’s only goal early in the restart.
Keelan Sexton and Eoin Cleary kept the scores coming for the hosts after that as they condemned John Maughan’s men to an opening nine-point loss.
