Newcastlewest claimed their second Limerick senior football championship title in three years – and fifth overall – as they saw off Adare by 1-8 to 0-5 last night at the Gaelic Grounds.
Having been all square at 0-3 apiece at the end of a drab first-half, there’d be no separating the sides in the third quarter either and it took 1-4 in the final quarter for Newcastlewest to secure the crown.
AJ O’Connor’s goal in the 55th minute came after a one-two with Eoin Murphy inside and, after that, there was simply no way back for Adare.
Jimmy Lee’s charges now advance the Munster club SFC quarter-finals on the weekend of December 4/5 where they will be up against the Waterford champions.
The first team to progress to the Waterford SFC semi-finals was confirmed last night when Gaultier defeated Clashmore-Kinsalebeg by 4-13 to 0-5.
The other three quarter-finals are down for decision this weekend as Rathgormack play Kilmacthomas and holders Ballinacourty face Kilrossanty today, while Sunday The Nire take on against Stradbally.
