Eamonn Burns says Down didn't poach Gearoid Adams away from neighbours Antrim.
Former Saffrons co-manager Adams was added to the Mourne County backroom team in October and Burns insists that he only approached the St John's clubman after he had been pushed back by his native county:
"We didn't take Gearoid away - Antrim got rid of him!" he told The Belfast Telegraph. "Gearoid will obviously bring experience and he knows the game inside out. He has experience as a coach and experience as a player that will stand him in good stead. He's started very positively with us; the boys have gelled with him very quickly.
"He's a job to do with us and he knows what the expectations are. These boys will be looking to push on this year and he was made very aware of that at the start and I have to say he's started very positively."
