Cork came from seven points down in the closing 12 minutes to secure a 0-24 to 2-17 victory against Cavan at Páirc Uí Chaoimh this afternoon.
Steven Sherlock’s two-point free in the dying stages ensured the Rebels opened their Allianz FL Division 2 campaign with a win against their Ulster counterparts.
The home side had fallen 0-3 to 0-0 behind early on before hitting the front and, despite conceding a Dara McVeety goal, the scores of Luke Fahy, Mark Cronin and Brian Hurley saw them taking in a 0-11 to 1-8 lead at the break.
Cavan got things level with the help of two Gearoid McKiernan scores from distance and saw a 45th minute goal from skipper Ciaran Brady put them four up before moving seven ahead, but they couldn’t hold on as Sean McDonnell and Mark Cronin hit points either side of a Sherlock two-pointer ahead of the substitute sending over the winner at the death.
What a finish in Pairc Ui Chaoimh !! Cavan led by 6 at one stage but Cork footballers fought back courageously to win with this 2 pointer. Substitute Steven Sherlock with this winning free. Big win for Cork. Heartbreak from Cavan away from home. @rtertertesport pic.twitter.com/7Z6rLxpUty

In Tullamore, Louth battled to a 1-21 to 0-19 win over Offaly to get themselves up and running in Division 2.
All-Star Sam Mulroy once again came up trumps for the Wee County, with his goal in the 47th minute putting them 1-17 to 0-16 ahead and, from there, Gavin Devlin’s side would see out the five-point victory.
Newly promoted Offaly were missing a handful of regulars, but acquitted themselves well against the Leinster champions as two-pointers from Dan Molloy, Aaron Leavy, Keith O'Neill and Ciaran Murphy helped them to lead by 0-14 to 0-11 at the halfway stage.
Louth got themselves in front within nine minutes of the restart, with Craig Lennon’s two-pointer giving them a 0-16 to 0-15 lead, and Mulroy’s brilliant finish would serve to knock the stuffing out of the hosts as the scores of Peter Lynch, Donal McKenny and Paul Matthews put a seal on their Louth's opening win.
