Conor McKenna made a surprise return to GAA action for his club Eglish last weekend.

Fresh from winning his second AFL Premiership with the Brisbane Lions – he wasn't part of the matchday squad for the Grand Final against Oisín Mullen’s Geelong and is now out of contract – McKenna came off the bench to score a point in Eglish’s 2-19 to 1-14 Tyrone IFC semi-final victory over Moy.

The 2021 All-Ireland winner’s return and current contract situation has inevitably fuelled speculation that he could revive his inter-county career with Tyrone next year. McKenna is one of only two male players to win AFL Premiership and All-Ireland SFC medals, with Kerry’s Tadhg Kennelly being the other.

According to reports from Australia, the 29-year-old has been offered a one-year extension by the Lions, but it remains to be seen if he will accept it after making only five appearances in the season just past.
