Former Donegal ladies captain Nadine Doherty says “a change is needed somewhere” for Mayo ladies or else the team is in for a short summer.
Mayo have lost all five of their outings in Division 1 of the Lidl National Football League thus far this season, with relegation-threatened Kildare set to pay them a visit in Swinford on Saturday afternoon (3pm).
Speaking on RTE 2fm’s ‘Game On’ programme, Doherty believes that Liam McHale’s side are in need of a change if they are to turn their fortunes around in the championship.
"It's very sad to say Mayo are playing for pride with two games left. They're relegated. For me, they shouldn't be,” she said.
"I think it's a combination of 15-20 players not playing for Mayo who should be playing for Mayo and their gameplan that needs to be more dynamic than soloing the ball up the pitch and hoping for the best. Because that is what it looks like at the minute.
"I feel if they are to challenge in championship, a change is needed somewhere."
