A talented young GAA player from Tullamore remains without a secondary school place this morning.

Thirteen-year-old Caiden Rattigan Hogan, who plays both hurling and football for the Blues, is among a number of students in the town still without a placement as the new school year begins.

According to his mother Amanda, Caiden applied to Cólaiste Choilm and Tullamore College, but still hasn't been offered a place at either school.

"Words can't describe how my son is feeling right now," she posted on Facebook last night.

"He is not just another statistic, he is a child who's mental health should not have to suffer, who should be given his basic right to an education."

Replying to the post, local TD Carol Nolan said: "I have been on to Minister Foley's office on a number of occasions and will continue to pursue the matter and support the families affected."
