Following intense speculation in recent weeks, Davy Fitzgerald is set to be ratified as Antrim’s new senior hurling manager tonight.

The move comes just over a month after the much-travelled Sixmilebridge man departed Waterford after two years in charge. It will be his fifth senior inter-county management post with a fourth different county, having previously managed Waterford (twice), Clare and Wexford.

Fitzgerald's name is to go before Antrim county board delegates for approval as replacement to Darren Gleeson who stepped down after five years in charge last month. The former Tipperary goalkeeper, who initially served as a selector under Neal Pedan, guided the Saffrons to Joe McDonagh Cup wins in 2020 and '22, and kept them in the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2023 and '24.
