Will Breffni be available for the Cavan SFC quarter-finals?

Cavan GAA is in a race against time to have its county grounds open in time for next weekend’s Cavan SFC quarter-finals.

Extensive damage was caused by a fire at Breffni Park in the early hours of August 28th, including disruption to all utilities, and it will be months before the stadium is fully restored.

In the height of club championship season, no games have been staged at the iconic Cavan town venue over the past two weekends and it remains closed this weekend.

However, thanks to the goodwill and help of many, a phased reopening is scheduled and it’s understood that Breffni could be in a position to host games again as soon as the dressing rooms and referees’ rooms are functional.

The quarter-finals of the 2026 senior football championship are due to start on Friday, September 18th, with four mouth-watering matches going down for decision that weekend. Holders Kingscourt have been paired with Cavan Gaels, while Gowna will take on Ramor United, Killygarry face Cuchulainns and Crosserlough lock horns with Mullahoran.
