Ballygunner’s dominance of the Waterford SHC scene shows no sign of ending after they extended their incredible unbeaten run to 68 matches at the weekend.

First round winners over Passage, the All-Ireland club champions powered to a 1-27 to 0-18 Group A victory over De La Salle at Azzurri Walsh Park on Sunday. Conor Tobin’s 16th minute goal had Jason Ryan’s men 1-11 to 0-12 in front at the break before they pulled away after the restart thanks to a flurry of points from Kevin Mahony, Mikey Mahony and Mark Hartley.

In the other group on Saturday evening, Ballygunner’s second team came from eight points down to earn a 0-21 each draw with Dungarvan. Dungarvan led by 0-14 to 0-8 at the interval and were still six points to the good before a late rally from Ballygunner ‘B’ culminated in Gavin Corbett sending over the equaliser with the last puck of the game.

In the same section (Group B), Roanmore avenged last year’s semi-final defeat to Mount Sion with a 0-20 to 0-12 win, while Aaron Ryan scored 2-11 for Fourmilewater in a 5-19 to 0-19 defeat of Lismore.

In the other Group A ties, Abbyeside overcame Ferrybank by 3-23 to 3-13 and Passage were 2-19 to 0-23 winners over Clonea.
