Cork’s Hannah Looney and Sarah Wall from Meath have become the latest ladies football stars to sign for AFLW clubs.

Dual star Looney becomes the fifth current Irish player at Hawthorn, joining Áine McDonagh (Galway), Aileen Gilroy (Mayo) and Niamh Martin (Tipperary) as well as Meath’s Conor Nash, who lines out for the club’s AFL side.

“Hawthorn has selected Hannah Looney with Pick 51 in the 2025 Telstra AFLW Draft,” the Hawks said in a statement.

“Looney is an Irish recruit with a strong background as a dual athlete for Cork across Gaelic football and camogie.

“The 28-year-old is a six-time All-Ireland senior camogie winner (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2024) and a five-time Camogie All-Star.

“Looney is known as a strong competitor with a great work ethic and boasts elite speed and a booming kick. She also brings a wealth of experience across two sports.

“She becomes Hawthorn’s fifth current Irish player at the club, joining Áine McDonagh, Aileen Gilroy and Niamh Martin, as well as Conor Nash in the AFL programme.”

Sarah Wall is also on her way to Australia where she will link up with her sister Vikki at North Melbourne. Also on the Premiership winners’ books are Erika O’Shea (Cork), Blathin Bogue (Fermanagh) and Amy Gavin Mangan (Offaly).

“As a defender/winger, Sarah possesses a burst of speed plus the aggression and power to play a lockdown role in defence,” North Melbourne AFLW list manager Flynn Loft said.

“We’re really happy to welcome another member of the Wall family to the club.”
