The funeral of legendary GAA commentator and personality Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh has taken place in Daingean Uí Chúis, Co Kerry.

The man known as ‘the voice of the GAA’ passed away on Tuesday at Dublin’s Mater Hospital. He was 93 years old.  

His coffin arrived at St. Mary’s Church draped in the Kerry flag and his friend Micheál Ó Sé, a former broadcaster and Kerry footballer, delivered a touching eulogy at the funeral mass where the service was conducted almost entirely in Irish.

Tánaiste Micheál Martin, former GAA president Larry McCarthy, former Kerry football manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice and broadcaster Marty Morrissey were among the crowds of people to sympathise with Mr Ó Muircheartaigh's family.
