Kerry got off to an impressive start in Group Four of the All-Ireland senior football championship by handing Monaghan a 0-24 to 1-11 defeat in Killarney this afternoon.

A full-forward line of David Clifford, Paul Geaney and Sean O’Shea combined for 0-14 of the winners’ tally as they as inflicted a 10-point loss oN the visitors for whom Gary Mohan netted what proved a consolation goal with a dozen minutes remaining.

The Munster champions hit the ground running in this one and wouldn’t look back until the half-time whistle as they carried in a commanding 0-15 to 0-2 lead at the interval.

Clifford widened the margin to 14 points for the Kingdom early in the restart and, despite Andrew Woods (free) and Conor McCarthy getting points back for the Farney men, the scores of Geaney and Tom O’Sullivan would make it a 15-point game before Mohan’s strike took some tarnish off for the Ulster side.
