Patrickswell got their Limerick senior hurling championship campaign off to a winning start last night by defeating holders Na Piarsaigh (2-15 to 1-16) at a rain-soaked Childers Road.

After having trailed by a point at half-time, Eamonn Kelly’s side came with a strong push in the third quarter that was led by county men Diarmaid Byrnes, Cian Lynch and Aaron Gillane.

‘Man of the Match’ in the All-Ireland SHC final less than two weeks ago, Peter Casey struck a goal for Na Piarsaigh after just 40 seconds in Claughaun but it was cancelled out by Calvin Carroll four minutes later.

The defending champions would go on to edge the lead come the interval but Gillane’s brilliant goal (see it below) after the turnaround put Patrickswell in the driving-seat.

The city side got back on level terms and it was all to play for in the late stages before Byrnes (free), Gillane and Lynch pucked over scores to secure the win for the 2019 winners.
