Kilkenny will meet Limerick in the Allianz Hurling League Division 1 final after overcoming Cork by 2-22 to 0-22 at Nowlan Park today.

Derek Lyng’s men were once again led by young in-form attacker Billy Drennan as he fired 1-13 over the 70 minutes to ensure that the league final would be a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland SHC decider.

Richie Hogan marked his return for the Cats with the first point of the afternoon in the opening minute and they’d go on to hold a 0-8 to 0-6 lead by the time Martin Keoghan struck in their first goal on 22 minutes.

Shane Kingston twice cut the margin down to three for Cork, as the sides went in at the half with the scoreboard reading 1-12 to 0-12, but Drennan’s goal from a penalty on 45 minutes edged the Leinster champions closer towards their final berth.

Robert Downey and Patrick Horgan (2) frees kept the Rebels in the fight and the margin would be at four heading towards injury-time thanks to the frees of Kingston and Horgan.

Drennan would shoot his 12th and 13th points either side of a Gearoid Dunne effort as Lyng’s men inflicted a first defeat of the campaign against their Munster counterparts to march on to their final date with the Shannonsiders.
