Galway fans fly their flag.

The GAA community in San Francisco has been left devastated by the tragic death of county board treasurer Barry McGrath in a road accident last Saturday night.

A native of Claregalway, Co. Galway, the 38-year-old single man was a familiar face on the San Francisco GAA scene and was recently elected chairman of St Joseph's Hurling Club in Silicon Valley. Barry's remains will be repatriated to Ireland with his funeral due to take place early next week.

In a heartfelt tribute to Barry on Facebook, San Francisco GAA said: "SFGAA are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Barry McGrath. A Galway native, Treasurer of our Board, Chairperson and player for St. Joseph's Hurling Club - Silicon Valley.

"He also played for San Francisco Sons of Boru/Celts, and was a highly regarded member of the Bay Area Irish community.

"As we begin to process this tragic news, we will keep you informed as we receive further updates. We ask you to keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
