In the second weekend of the fifth month, the 2021 competitive intercounty programme finally got up and running.
The season began with a bang, with three top-flight national hurling league clashes down for decision.
In their first outing since defeating Waterford in last December's All-Ireland SHC final, holders Limerick opened their league defence against Munster rivals Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds (5:30).
Prior to that, there was a fascinating all-Leinster clash at Parnell Park, where Dublin entertained Kilkenny (3:30). Mullingar, meanwhile, had the honour of staging the first league game of the year: Westmeath V Galway at 2pm.
