London’s Allianz Football League campaign came to a conclusion at Semple Stadium, Thurles last night when Tipperary defeated them for promotion back to Division 3.
Having had no competitive football for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Exiles enjoyed their best ever start to the league with wins over Carlow (2-11 to 1-13), Waterford (1-12 to 2-8) and Leitrim (2-5 to 0-9).
Michael Maher’s team led Division 4 headed into the fourth round before a narrow 0-11 to 1-6 loss at home to Wexford would see three more defeats follow.
Round 6 saw London doing themselves proud again by pushing league leaders Cavan all the way in Ruislip before succumbing to a one-point defeat and yesterday’s 1-14 to 0-12 loss to Tipp means a fifth-place finish in the table.
They now look forward to hosting Leitrim in the Connacht SFC quarter-finals on April 17th.
“As the 2022 league campaign comes to a close we couldn’t be more prouder of our footballers. Two years away with no competitive action and we enjoyed our best ever start to the league season,” London GAA tweeted last night.
