Waterford have been forced to postpone Sunday's McGrath Cup opener against Clare as they are unable to field a team following "a number of Covid cases and close contacts as well as a number of injuries."
The Walsh Park clash was set to be the first inter-county fixture of 2022 and Ephie Fitzgerald's first outing as Waterford manager.
"Sunday’s McGrath Cup Football Group A match between Waterford and Clare has been postponed," Munster GAA confirmed.
"Waterford are unable to field a team due to a number of Covid cases and close contacts as well as a number of injuries."
Next Monday's historic Connacht FBD FL quarter-final clash between Leitrim and Sligo at the NUI Galway Connacht Air Dome - the first inter-county GAA match to take place under a roof - will now get the new season underway.
