Antrim got up and running at the third attempt in the Joe McDonagh Cup this afternoon by defeating London on a 1-22 to 4-9 scoreline in Ruislip.

Davy Fitzgerald’s side saw late points in the first-half from Keelan Molloy, Conall Bohill and Seaan Elliott (free) move them towards a 0-10 to 0-7 half-time lead.

Paul Kennedy hit the net for London two minutes into the restart, but Antrim pushed ahead again and Conal Cunning’s goal in the 48th minute had the scoreboard reading 1-14 to 1-9.

The next four points were sent over by the Saffrons prior to Sean Glynn grabbing the home side’s second goal, which was erased by unanswered points from Jack McCloskey, Molloy and James McNaughton (free) at the other end.

Looking for their first win of the competition themselves, the Exiles kept the heat on in the closing stages with goals from Jack Morrissey (free) and Conor Byrne before seeing full-back Padraig Muldoon red-carded as McNaughton’s late free rounded off the winning tally in injury-time.

Yesterday’s results in the second tier saw Carlow recording their third straight victory while Laois were comfortable in the evening’s derby clash against Westmeath in Mullingar.
