UCC and UL face off in a fascinating Sigerson Cup final at Croke Park this evening.
While it’s a repeat of the 2023 decider, not many would have predicted the same final pairing this year. UCC are second only to UCD on the roll of honour with 24 titles, having claimed the last of those against UL three years ago. Managed by Paul O’Keeffe, they dethroned DCU Dóchas Eireann before going on to record an impressive semi-final victory over University of Galway when Ruairí Murphy's early goal sent them on their way.
Under the guidance of former Tipperary manager David Power, UL dug deep to overcome Queen’s University after extra-time in their semi-final. Mayo pair Cian McHale and Frank Irwin combined for 1-12, while Cathal Brosnan’s goal brought about extra-time.
Having lost back-to-back finals in 2022 and ’23, the Limerick students are hoping it will be a case of third time lucky. UL's hurlers will also contest the Fitzgibbon Cup final against local rivals Mary Immaculate College at Croker on Friday night, so the double is very much on!
Throw-in is 7.35pm with TG4 broadcasting the game live.
