Monaleen were seven-point winners over Oola in Rhebogue

Monaleen secured their third win in the Limerick senior football championship last night (Thursday) by seeing off Oola on a 2-13 to 1-9 scoreline in Rhebogue.

It was Oola that had made the perfect start to this fourth-round encounter after Limerick ace Josh Ryan (1-7) netted them a penalty inside the opening three minutes.

However, Monaleen sent over the next seven points without reply to take control and would hold a 0-9 to 1-2 advantage come the break, with Conal Ó Duinn and Steven Kiely among their chief scorers during the opening period.

Oola trimmed their deficit to two points within 10 minutes of the restart with a brace of Ryan frees, but an Ó Duinn penalty after Jack Canny was taken down saw the 2016 champions surge clear again.

Ó Duinn and Kiely added points ahead of the latter rifling in a second goal for his side which sees Eddie Cosgrave’s charges through to the last eight, while Oola sit on three points from four games.
