Ten years since Niall Donohue left us

Yesterday marked the 10th anniversary of the tragic death of Galway hurling star Niall Donohue.

The much-loved Kilbeacanty clubman had the hurling world at his feet when he passed away just two days before his 23rd birthday in 2013. An All-Ireland U-21 winner in 2011, Niall graduated to the senior team under Anthony Cunningham and lined out at right half back in the All-Ireland final replay defeat to Kilkenny in 2012. Last December, some of Galway's biggest hurling stars lined out in the Niall Donohue Memorial Match which saw the 2012 Leinster SHC-winning team and a 2017 All-Ireland SHC-winning selection face off in Kilbeacanty.

In a heartfelt Facebook post last evening, Kilbeacanty Hurling Club said: "Always remembered, loved and sadly missed by us all in Kilbeacanty GAA, today marks Niall's 10th anniversary.

"Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved still missed and very dear.

"Niall’s 10th anniversary mass is on in Kilbeacanty church this Sunday 29th October at 11:15am.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."
