Wexford GAA has decided to retain its current ‘split season’ model.
Delegates at last night’s county board meeting voted to keep the controversial format which sees the club hurling championships run off first before the club football championships get underway. Next year will be the fourth year of the model, which was introduced following the onset of Covid-19 in 2020, despite some clubs favouring a return to the old model where the hurling and football championships were run off in tandem.
A statement from Wexford GAA read: “Following a vote of County Committee, there will be no change to either the championship competition format for 2023 nor the recommended calendar with Two 6’s remaining the clubs’ choice for the competition format with a recommended calendar of a split season with the hurling championship to be played first.”
