Limerick are Munster U20 hurling champions after seeing off Tipperary by 1-25 to 2-18 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds last night.
Adam English’s goal three minutes in set the tone early for the hosts in this decider, as the same player added a brace of points in the opening quarter that saw them into a 1-4 to 0-2 lead.
Tipp got their first two scores on the board through Peter Creedon and Kyle Shelly and the latter would fire in a terrific goal in the 17th minute.
Limerick remained consistent at the other end however and four points from Aidan O’Connor helped them carry in a 1-13 to 1-6 lead at half-time.
Jack Leamy’s goal seven minutes into the restart brought Brendan Cummins’ lads right back into the contest ahead of the Shannonsiders posting two of the next three points via Shane O’Brien and O’Connor.
Shelly (two frees) and Leamy made it a two-point game in the final quarter, but Limerick finished out strong with substitutes Patrick O’Donovan and Patrick Reale both raising white flags and late scores from O’Brien and O’Connor securing a ninth Munster U21/U20 crown for the Treaty County.
Diarmuid Mullins's lads now advance to the All-Ireland U20HC final against Kilkenny or Wexford on the weekend of May 21/22.
