Glen claimed a first ever Derry senior football championship title with a dominant display against holders Slaughtneil that saw them to a 1-13 to 0-7 victory at Celtic Park.
The Maghera club had the damage done in the first-half of this decider, with three points from Ciaran McCaul and Danny Tallon’s goal in the run up to half-time leading it at 1-6 to 0-1 come the interval.
Played before a crowd of 7,435, this decider wouldn’t be any where near as close as anticipated and despite points from Shane McGuigan it was his fellow Derry star Conor Glass that kept Slaughtneil out of contention.
The last of Glass’s points would be a gem from out around centre-field in the 51st minute, which moved Glen 1-12 to 0-6 in front and all but ensured a first John McLaughlin Cup success for the Malachy O'Rourke-managed Watty Graham's side.
