All-Ireland champions Limerick have been dealt a blow with the news that attacker Peter Casey suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury during Sunday's final against Cork.

The injury saw Casey having to be withdraw before half-time against the Rebels after hitting five points from play in the opening half-hour at Croke Park.

RTE Sport reports this afternoon that it has since been confirmed Casey ruptured his cruciate knee ligament and is now awaiting an operation which is expected to rule him out for the next six to nine months.

Casey’s older brother Mike, who was corner-back during the Treaty County’s 2018 Liam MacCarthy Cup triumph, suffered a cruciate ligament injury in October of last year and has only just returned to training.
