Garrymore are through to the Mayo senior football championship final for the first time since 1982 after edging past Belmullet 2-16 to 2-15 after extra-time.

Belmullet led 0-9 to 0-8 at half-time before Garrymore struck twice through Mark Gibbons and Gary Golden to take control.

Fionn O’Donoghue replied with two goals for Belmullet, including a late second major which left just a point between the teams.

Garrymore trailed by a point at the end of normal time, but Trevor Nally produced a crucial score to force extra-time at 2-11 to 1-14.

Mayo All-Ireland winners Eoin McGreal and Enda Hession also contributed important scores as Garrymore held their nerve in a dramatic finish.

They will face Castlebar Mitchels in the Mayo senior final after the 31-time champions defeated Breaffy in the other semi-final on Saturday.
