Fitzmaurice tipped to be next Galway football manager

Éamonn Fitzmaurice has emerged as the front-runner to succeed Pádraic Joyce as Galway senior football manager.

It is being widely reported that the former Kerry All-Ireland SFC winning player and manager is poised to take charge of the Tribesmen after holding positive talks with Galway GAA chairman Paul Bellew in recent days.

The Finuge clubman won the Sam Maguire three times as a player and once as a manager in 2014 when Kerry defeated Donegal in the final. He also holds six Munster SFC medals and one Allianz League medal, and coached David Clifford's Fossa to an All-Ireland club JFC title in 2022.

Fitzmaurice has remained a high-profile figure through his punditry work for RTÉ and his involvement in the Football Review Committee (FRC). Ironically, the chair of that committee, Jim Gavin, was also linked with the Galway role before opting out.
