The Westmeath senior footballers have lost another key player ahead of the 2025 season with the news that Andy McCormack is emigrating to the Middle East.

The Rosemount clubman was a regular at midfield when Westmeath won Division 3 of the Allianz League and also gave a good account of themselves against eventual finalists Armagh and Galway in the All-Ireland SFC series this year. His departure follows hot on the heels of Dessie Dolan’s decision to step down as manager after two years. The Lake County have also lost Dessie’s cousin James to retirement and David Lynch, who has relocated to Australia.

Westmeath fans are hoping that other long-serving stars such as Kevin Maguire, John Heslin and Kieran Martin will make themselves available to the incoming manager. The search for a new manager has begun in earnest with the appointment of a selection committee which includes Dessie Dolan's predecessor, Jack Cooney.

“Andy has given Rosemount over 10 years of hard work and dedication and was a mainstay on the team since he was 17,” McCormack’s club said in a Facebook post.

“He was also part of the Rosemount team who won the Westmeath IFC in 2016 and played his part in the Tailteann Cup and Division 3 successes with Westmeath in the last few years.”
