Boyle advanced to the quarter-finals of the Roscommon senior football championship thanks to a 2-14 to 0-14 win over Roscommon Gaels last night.

The Gaels had led by 0-9 to 0-7 at half-time before seeing Michael Gilooly red-carded two minutes into the restart and their opponents would make the most of their numerical advantage.

Boyle hit 2-4 without reply during the game's third quarter, with their first goal coming from county man Daire Cregg and the ball would be in the Gaels’ net again a minute later via Donie Smith as they went on to win by six in the end.

In Johnstown, Clann na nGael saw off Padraig Pearses by 2-12 to 1-9 to round off their Group B campaign with a victory.

The hosts made a superb start that saw them firing in goals via Paul McManus and Ciaran Lennon inside the opening nine minutes, with Declan Kenny pulling back a goal for Pearses four minutes later.

Clann na nGael would hold a 2-4 to 1-5 lead at the interval and increased their advantage with scores from Josh Lennon (two-pointer), McManus and Ciaran Lennon. They'd go on to record the six-point win, however the result wouldn’t be enough for Clann to avoid the relegation play-offs.
