Former Tipperary star Shane McGrath believes the foundation of Limerick's success over the past decade lies in the relationships the players have built away from the hurling field.

Sunday saw the Treaty men winning their sixth All-Ireland SHC title since the start of the John Kiely era, as they comprehensively defeated Galway by 1-29 to 1-18 at Croke Park.

Kiely’s side will go down as one of the greatest teams to ever play the game and, speaking on the RTÉ GAA Podcast, 2010 All-Ireland winner McGrath pointed to the bond that has been formed within the group over the years.

"I'm only a stone's throw from Limerick, and if you're in around Limerick, or if you're at a coffee shop... they do everything together, on and off the field," he said.

"If they're doing something, there's eight or nine of them doing it together.

"Now, they've obviously done a lot together as well, and they've trained hard, and I suppose they've put themselves in environments where they've questioned each other and called each other out on things, and that either makes you or breaks you.

"It's obviously made this group, you know, when they do call each other out on things, that they say, 'this is for the greater good'. But they're so close and you can see that in the trust they have each other, when at the highest intensity or in the highest intense environment, the trust is there with each other."
