New Mayo senior football captain Jack Coyne has described the “huge honour” it is to lead the Westerners for the year ahead.
The Ballyhaunis clubman was confirmed as his county’s new captain for 2026 towards the end of November, succeeding fellow defender Paddy Durcan in the role, with the vice-captaincy duties of the team set to be shared by Ryan O’Donoghue and Darren McHale.
“It’s a huge honour for myself, my club, my family and my friends,” Coyne stated.
“So, again, it’s a great honour to represent this group. It means a lot to me. The county as a whole does also. To be asked to do that was a huge honour and really looking forward to it for the year ahead.”
Andy Moran’s first outing of the new year as Mayo manager is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon when his side take on Sligo in the opening round of the Connacht FBD Football League in Charlestown (1pm).
