Donegal hope to have Michael Murphy back on the field for them in the next couple of weeks, according to team selector Neil McGee.

The Ulster champions were victorious in their first outing of the Allianz Football League last night when they saw off Dublin by 0-20 to 0-16 in what was an impressive display by the hosts in Ballybofey.

Speaking before throw-in, McGee told TG4 that Murphy’s long awaited return to the Tir Chonaill men’s line-up should be in the next few weeks as the 35-year-old continues to recover from the hamstring injury he picked up last month.

“He’s trained very well. Obviously, he’s (been) out for two years,” McGee said pre-game. “So in terms of getting up to the speed of things, it’s probably going to take him a bit (longer).

“He’s not involved in the squad tonight, but hopefully in the next couple of weeks he’s going to be back involved.

“Obviously, everybody knows the kind of player Michael is and the one thing we seen from all the games last week is the best players are still the best players, and that’s going to stand no matter what way the game goes.”
