Anton Sullivan joined Offaly’s ‘centurion club’ yesterday.

Alas, the long-serving Rhode forward failed to mark the milestone with the win that would have kept the Faithful County in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League and spared them the Tailteann Cup later this year.

Despite scoring 1-3 (the goal came from a 34th minute penalty), Sullivan couldn’t save John Maughan’s men from an agonising 1-20 to 1-21 defeat to Cork in a cracking relegation decider at O’Connor Park. It means that Offaly make an instant return to Division 3 where they will be joined by Down, Antrim, Westmeath, Longford, Fermanagh, Cavan and Tipperary next year.
