Last night's victory for our courageous Fermanagh team was truly impressive-an assured performance that secured crucial two points. Manager, Kieran Donnelly has definitely emphasised the significance of a strong start, particularly as the team get to grips in Division 2. The first half showcased brilliant scores from the Ronan McCaffery, Sean Cassidy and of course the Cullen twins, Ché and Lee whose defending was not only outstanding but also their opportunistic scoring. However, my man of the match was our Enniskillen Gaels young Ross Bogue whose goalkeeping debut for the county was remarkable, excelling in high balls, possession, and a crucial penalty save, despite the penalty seeming a bit harsh. Meanwhile, Fermanagh maintained a speedy pace throughout, executing effective counterattacks in the second half, with Ultán Kelm, Josh Largo Elis, and Sean Cassidy's goal proving pivotal. The team's shape was excellent, everyone comfortable in their roles, thwarting various Kildare attacks. Fermanagh's youth shone through with character and confidence, a promising sign. As expected, Kildare came back stronger in the second half, but Fermanagh weathered the storm well, denying any goal chances. The game could have been easier if not for two missed scoreable frees from Garvan Jones and Ultán Kelm. Free taking and post-foul communication either by players of team officials with the referee are areas needing improvement, although, many thought he was overzealous with the black card. On the funny side, at one stage a thought came to mind, that if the spectator macca999 is shown red card for giving off to the referee or his officials, he would have ejection from the stadium, thereby making my Geals colleague's wish come to fruition! The Fermanagh's youthfulness was evident, but they displayed encouraging character and confidence. While I think management were slow to utilise substitutes, there's a need to freshen up the team when facing opposition pressure. In summary, a fantastic win before the break, positioning Fermanagh well for the upcoming challenging game with Donegal in two weeks' time. The pressure is off, and with potential contributions from Jonny Cassidy, Ryan Lyons, Conor Love, and James McMahon, from the bench, the outlook is looking positive. For now, a job well done guys!

New Fermanagh Manager - 5 Like(s)

Replying To Molaise:  "The idea of Dom taking over makes no sense whats so ever!!! I'm told however that he not the number one choice of the players. They are reported to have handed a list of three men to the county chairman and Dom their third choice!"
Sorry sir or madam you are talking rubbish. No such instructions were either given or would they be followed by the county board. The recruitment process doesn't work that way as it has to follow GAA protocol guidance. It was disappointing that Pete McGrath has chosen to use his privileged position to reveal details of private discussions in respect the concerns of the majority of our county players. I hope his decision will not come back to haunt him as it may make any prospective county board or club wary of him given his insensitive reaction. At this stage, not one of the Fermanagh players have broken rank and I have great admiration for their reserved position. Media outlets may use the crisis to feed the thirst of their followers but the Fermanagh people are much more resilient and will rise about this current cheap publicity. The Fermanagh team should be cherished and respected and into the future under a new manager they will move on and hopefully achieve greater success and maybe a much sought after Ulster Championship title.

Pete McGrath reveals his reasons for shock Fermanagh departure: > Player unrest reached a level where he simply could not continue as manager > He didn't allow players to stay in a comfort zone > At different times players weren't allowing management to stay in a comfort zone > The issues that were mentioned to him were not major issues, and in fact in his view in some cases they were non-issues > He felt there was great trust The problem with Pete was he was out of touch with the players and if he had been in touch, then he wouldn't be in the embarrassing position of doing a U turn. Time to move on and look for someone, maybe Dom Corrigan or his like, to take charge.

Replying To erneboy:  "Fixture confirmed last night. 04.06.2023 (Sun) Tailteann Cup Group 4 Round 3 Fermanagh v Antrim Athletic Grounds, Armagh at 15:00 A huge game and our lads need to be in top form as Antrim is energised following a good season for them. I don't agree with macca999 and his dig at McNally as he has been really as great asset to Fermanagh not just in goals but as the extra man, a role where he has made a significant difference. Yes, Kelm would be more effective up front but wasn't his fault that management positioned him further out. I think encouraging the players comes to from supporting them whatever happens on the day and not by constantly fault finding, so ease of with your criticism Mr Macca!!"
Yeah erneboy, I fully agree hands off our footballers please. The same slabber does little to support our county senior team admitting a while back that he wasn't giving annually to Club Eirne as well as complaining about gate prices but he'll have to go the Athletic Grounds this time as he cannot sit on the high stool as it's not on GAAGO TV.

Replying To cillnaile.:  "First of all, m acca you must live in the Freestate as I left of my children for school the morning which I will do tomorrow and Wednesday. Anyway, to you previous long-winded comment the one positive for me was Sean McNally's fantastic saves and his outfield contribution as the extra man. It's great you have bowed to pressure and stopped blaming goalkeeping as Fermanagh's main problem. I thought Quigley wasn't as useful as I expected. Jonny Cassidy lost possession of the ball too easily but I would guess he was targeted as part of Cavan's plan. Fermanagh will learn a lot from the experience although the forthcoming game with Derry will be definitely be challenging. Let's hope for the best."
Ah Kinawley man you're a little bias there by criticising Jonny when in fact dispossession was a team wide issue on the day. Your comment doesn't do justice to Jonny who has been inspirational in this year's league with is ball possession and fast moving game play that made a huge difference to outcomes for his team. So wind in your neck and keep your bias towards anybody from Ekn Gaels. The one credit I would give to you was the fact about the North's Easter school holidays not yet started which established that macca999 is in fact not in our county but an intruder from elsewhere. I done a Google search and found he has at least three usernames those being macca999 (Cavan), macca999 (National) and macca999 (Fermanagh) and according to others probably many more. See you all on Sunday week at Brewster Park to see our fabulous new pitch surface.

Replying To cillnaile.:  "Macca reminds me of my grandpa's donkey as when things were going good eating fresh carrots he was boastous but when the feeding was sub standard he would kick back with hind legs. Similarly, Macca is all praise for Fermanagh for now but if they lose badly in the next games he will lambast players as happened last season with his over-the-top criticism of goalkeeping which caused uproar on this forum. So his dismissive, if not arrogant, response to wired2themoon was unwarranted."
Absolutely priceless!

Replying To hillbilly.:  "Given that an under age game had to be aborted recently due to adult spectators from both clubs were engaged in behaviour unbefitting to the sport, should those concerned be banned, named and shamed? Referee and officials get a tough time too and something must be done to eradicate all such misconduct. The second matter I want to raise is about slim attendance at the county games in the league but particularly now in the Tailteann Cup competition?Surely, it can't just be about ticket prices? The third matter I want comment on is about a certain poster on here who seems to cause such uproar by is amateur game analysis that at times is a bit too sensitive. Does this poster not realise that he must be the problem given that it is not just one or even two people he's annoying bit it's numerous Hoganstand members?"
Answers: First point... Ban, name & shame Second point... Cheaper gate tolls would help & make it more appealing with free tea or water & fun activities for entertainment for the children. Third point... Name & shame those online critics who set out to demean our players.

Time for the Kesh GFC man to say sorry following his foolish words about Antrim. Thank you Kinawley man for identifying the poster and I pity that present club as he is likely to walk away from them too. Now to this weekend and if Fermanagh lose once again I believe team management should be hauled over the coals. Let's hope that attendance is improved.

Not a good start for Fermanagh with no sense of enthusiasm from the players. Front line needs to improve if they are to make headway in the league to avoid a relegation path. Early days yet. I would guess macca999 will be gloating as he was sceptical of the new management suggesting the county get only what they pay for but hopefully he will be proved wrong again!

Why did Fermanagh let their great half time lead drain away? macca999's prediction of the team dropping to division 4 might not be so ridiculous after all."
There was a very strong wind in fairness, same happened in games all over the country. Fermanagh were probably slightly better than Wicklow but there wasn't much in it in fairness."]Aye, you're being sympathetic on one hand but on the other hand you're probably laughing up your sleeve mate just like a certain slabber poster m***a here from our own county who seems to have Fermanagh doomed in his own narrow minded view. It hasn't been exactly the best start for our county team but there are positives to be taken from yesterday's game and I think Donnelly and his team will built upon those as the league campaign continues. It's early days for the new manager and I think as time goes on he will turn around the fortunes of Fermanagh to build a team of reputation worthy of wearing the green and white despite the negativeness of m***a and his likewise Slabbering cohorts.

Yes, the leckers certainly got whacked and not a whimper from macca999 who has taken plenty of opportunities to glorify some of their players. Like Macca, both have paled into GAA wilderness!

Replying To Allaboutclub:  "Fermanagh's 22 clubs will benefit the most, receiving €4545 each"
My calculation based on conversion to sterling means that each of the Fermanagh 22 clubs will receive £4,055.58. Although. beneficial it is a small contribution in terms of running costs of clubs such as Enniskillen Gaels. Maybe the likes of Knocks and Lisbellaw hurling clubs would gain the most from such a donation. Point one - Ederney were weak in defence in the SFC semi final's 2nd half otherwise a trailing Belleek wouldn't have penetrated such a defence to level up the game. Facts speak for themselves, not spin! Point two - On the matter of indiscipline on the field, have the GAA officials a legal requirement to do more to control the situation rather than be observers? It would be interesting to see if legally tested how the GAA manage such incidents.
