The funeral takes place today of former Roslea Shamrocks footballer Ciaran Cassidy, who passed away suddenly last Thursday.

The father-of-three was a member of a well-known Fermanagh GAA family, with his brother Niall having played in defence for the Erne County for several years. Ciaran, who won county SFC and JFC medals with Roslea and played with them up until a couple of years ago, is survived by his wife Aíne and children Aodhan, Michael and Daire.

In a heartfelt tribute, his club said: "The Committee, players and members of Roslea Shamrocks are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Ciaran Cassidy. Ciaran played at both underage and senior levels. He was part of championship winning squads throughout his playing career, including Senior and Junior titles. Most recently, he lined out at wing half-back in our Senior Football League Division 2 Final against Devenish in 2023.

"We extend our sincere condolences to Ciaran’s children, Aodhan, Michael (current U14 player), Daire (current U12 player), and their mother Aine. Our thoughts are also with his parents, Mick and Maisie, loyal club supporters, and his siblings, John, Margaret (Gerry Corr), Niall (Lucia), and Catherine (Peter Mullarkey), along with his nieces and nephews. His nephew Jamie is a member of the current Senior squad.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his entire family circle and friends at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
