A sixteen-year-old boy who fled the war in Ukraine last April was a proud recipient of an Offaly MFC medal at the weekend.
Vlad Biriuk was part of the winning Tullamore panel which were presented with their medals in the Bridge House Hotel last Saturday night. Vlad took up GAA shortly after he and his mother Inna and sister Viktoria arrived in Ireland after being forced to leave their home in northeast Ukraine.
Vlad was among the substitutes when Tullamore defeated Kilcormac/Killoughey in last October’s county final at O’Connor Park.
