Cuchulainns set for Cavan SFC semi-final date with Kingscourt

Cuchulainns will face holders Kingscourt Stars for a place in the Cavan senior football championship final after seeing off Killygarry in last night’s quarter-final replay.

It finished 1-16 to 1-12 at Kingspan Breffni, where Niall McGee bagged the winners’ goal after 13 minutes while Mark Gilsenan and ace attacker Evan Doughty also registered first-half scores.

Killygarry netted an early goal via Cian Keaney but needed points by county man Oisin Brady and Matthew McKenna to trim their deficit to the minimum come the break (1-7 to 1-6).

Keaney squared matters with a ‘45’ early on in the restart and Brady would put them ahead from the same distance, but the intermediate champions responded with a two-pointer from Doughty and more scores via Bryan McGee and Doughty put them four to the good from where they saw out the win.

It means the Mullagh men now get set to meet Kingscourt next weekend for a county final berth, with rivaks Crosserlough taking on Gowna in the other semi-final.  

The earlier game at Kingspan Breffni saw Castlerahan preserving their senior status by relegating Laragh United on a 4-16 to 1-11 scoreline. 

Conor Farrelly, Ciaran Caldwell, Rory Smith and Cormac Lynch grabbed the goals in an emphatic 14-point win for the Ballyjamesduff men.
