All-Ireland winning manager Gerard Donnelly has stepped down from the Tyrone minor football hot seat.

Guiding the Red Hands to All-Ireland glory in 2025 was the pinnacle of Donnelly’s illustrious six years at the helm.

He led his county to four Ulster minor titles in total (2021, 2022, 2025 and 2026). The Tom Markham Cup was claimed in ’25 with victory over Kerry, while All-Ireland finals were also contested in 2021 and this year.

Meath defeated Tyrone by a point in the first of those two deciders and Cork came out on top in the 2026 final at Newbridge on July 5th – 2-16 to 1-16.

Tyrone GAA acknowledged the departing manager’s priceless contribution: “Beyond the silverware, Gerard has played an important role in the development of a generation of young Tyrone footballers, helping prepare players to progress through the county pathway while representing their clubs and communities with distinction on the national stage.

“His six years in charge have been marked by tremendous commitment, leadership and consistency, and we are extremely grateful for the time and energy he has given to Tyrone football.

“We thank Gerard, his management teams and backroom personnel for an outstanding contribution over the past six years and wish him every success in the future.”

Diarmaid McNulty has been named as the successor Donnelly. McNulty has proven All-Ireland winning pedigree at intercounty level, having been part of the management team that helped Tyrone to back-to-back U20 FC All-Irelands in 2024 and ’25.

He was also manager of the Omagh CBS teams that claimed MacRory Cup and Hogan Cup titles in both 2023 and 2024. McNulty has been given an initial three-year term, as has new U20 hurling manager Paul O’Grady.
